Doodlepots
and 'imagine' series
The
doodlepot and 'imagine' series comes from my belief that the thoughts
and feelings we keep can and do influence our lives and potentially
those around us. In this series, I look back to my
early childhood in the late 60's and early 70's in how I voice
my own thoughts and feelings. Rather than speak out against what
I don't want ... ' stop the war' or 'end hunger', I rather focus
on the things I do want to see. Drawing on my hippie adolescent
doodles that filled my school notebooks, I see that even then my
focus was on these more positive energies.
The doodlepots are carved very much like those early notebook doodles.
The vibrating frames around each sentiment are those echoing energies
that emanate out, making each positive feeling grow in strength.
The 'imagine' series is an extension of this, but focusing on more
specific sentiments. 'imagine...peace'. A simple sentiment, but
perhaps if we just start with that one action, the belief will
grow within us and our actions will begin to reflect it. With a
strong belief behind this, the sentiments can become more than
a nostalgic hippie slogan.
Some pieces shown below are created as decorative pieces, but the
functional ware is fully functional and food safe.
