Why Crazy Green?

When I was pondering a name for my studio, I kept getting advice to make it something I love and can live with every day. At the time, my very favorite glaze was one called 'crazy green' - a delightful copper glaze that does so many wonderful things on different clays and in different firings. That name also resonated with me because of my quest to find the best way to have a working studio that is as environmentally friendly as possible. Little did I know at the time how very vogue it would become to be 'green', so it makes me very happy to be Crazy Green!

What Goes on Here?

Crazy Green Studios is the home of Pottery by Lori Theriault (that's me!). I make functional and decorative pottery, tiles, funerary and commemorative pieces. I also make special commissions, like bridal and gift registries or branded corporate gifts. Most of my work is fired in reduction to cone 10, but when the occasion and fancy arises, you may see work that's been in a wood kiln, a soda/salt kiln, or even a cone 7/8 oxidation kiln. I sell my work directly from the studio, through galleries in the region, and through some retail establishments. If you click on the events link, you'll find a full list of where to find my work, and for all the current studio news, check out the Crazy Green Studios blog!

In addition to my work, I offer open studio memberships for beginner and beginning potters, and those who just want to give clay a try.

Studio Membership:

Studio membership includes use of the studio during open hours, all clay, tools, glazes and firings. Membership also includes any instruction you need, when you need it!

The studio offers electric and kick wheels, hand building tables, wedging table, a slab roller and all basic wheel and hand building tools.

Our clay is a pugged blend of stonewares, and we fire to cone 7/8 in oxidation. The studio offers a range of oxide washes, underglazes and a small but versatile palette of translucent and opaque glazes.

At Crazy Green Studios, our mission is to offer a welcoming and relaxed environment for the beginner and beginning clay enthusiast. The open studio format means you can come when you like. You're not chained to a class schedule - if you have an hour before work or an afternoon or evening, you come when it works for you. If you're brand new to clay, you'll get hands on instruction to get you started. If you've had a few classes and want to work on your skills, you'll be able to work at your own pace and get help along the way.

Membership fees:

$180 per month, includes all that's mentioned above.

Crazy Green Studios is a small studio, and we want to be sure we can comfortably accommodate and support our members. Membership is limited, but special 'weekend pass' rates, private lessons and custom workshops are available.
